Community choir presents Bach Fest

The St. Augustine Community Chorus will present A BACH FEST, 3:30, Sunday, May 4 at the Ancient City Baptist Church in St. Augustine.

The Chorus and soloists will sing J.S. Bach’s MAGNIFICAT, THE PEASANT CANTATA, and CANTATA No. 80. Cantata No. 80 is based on the hymn tune A Mighty Fortress is our God. Read more

Local restaurants join forces

Two months ago, several local restaurant owners decided to do something to level the playing field with the onslaught of larger, chain restaurants who promote themselves in St. Augustine.

According to records filed with the Florida Division of Corporations, Ted McLemore of Zhanra’s and South Beach Grill joined Lorna McDonald owner of the Raintree Restaurant, Pat Morrissey owner of Gypsy Cab Co, Chris Way owner of Barnacle Bills as well as Michael McMillan owner of Opus 39 and the Tasting Room, to form The St. Augustine Independent Restaurant Association, Inc. Tampered pump results in fuel theft

Last week we ran a story about a drive-off at Pilot Travel Centers on CR 210 where over $400.00 worth of fuel was stolen.

This week a more elaborate scheme resulted in the theft of over $1,200.00 worth of fuel — just across the street. Read more

Rev. C. T. Vivian, 83, was one of the closest living associates of Dr. Martin Luther King. He played an important part in the civil rights movement in St. Augustine in 1964 and is pictured in the center of a famous photograph showing the wade-in at St. Augustine Beach that attracted international attention.
