A night of blues and rock at the Amphitheatre

November 11, 2012 | By More

Legendary blues guitarist Buddy Guy took the stage at the St Augustine Amphitheatre last night with Grammy Award-winning Jonny Lang; and Historic City News photojournalist Mark Cubbedge was there to capture some of the evening’s highlights for our local readers.

Rolling Stone magazine ranks Louisiana native Buddy Guy 30th of the top 100 guitarists of all time — calling Guy “the bridge between the blues and rock and roll”. He is one of the historic links between Chicago electric blues pioneers Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf and popular musicians like Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page as well as later revivalists like Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Jonny Lang is an American blues, gospel, and rock singer, songwriter, guitarist and recording artist. Lang’s music is notable for both his unusual voice, which has been compared to that of a 40-year-old blues veteran, and for his guitar solos. His solo patterns have especially been noted for the constant use of wide vibratos.

Under management from the St Johns County Cultural Events Division, the St Augustine Amphitheatre has shown continuing strength in its ability to pull consistently high quality performing artists during the past year.
