Sep142012_3644Historic City News government news desk has observed that St Johns County’s Congressman-elect Ron DeSantis is already making news — he is one of less than a dozen newly elected members of the US House of Representatives who have served in Iraq or Afghanistan.

At just 34-years of age, DeSantis has already amassed an impressive background in service to his country, education, and personal accomplishment. He was elected to represent St Johns County in Florida’s 6th congressional district. DeSantis lives in Ponte Vedra Beach with his wife Casey Black-DeSantis; an Emmy award-winning television host.

“Senior officers are accountable for getting their job done because there are consequences if it’s not done well,” DeSantis said in an excerpt from a recent PBS broadcast. “You need to be accountable — if you need to pass the budget, you’ve got to do it; from a military perspective, there are consequences if you fail.”

Articles published by the Associated Press are recognizing DeSantis’ accomplishments, as well. DeSantis believes that his military background has prepared him for his new mission and he is eager to get to work.

One published bio reported, “The new representative entered the U.S. Navy in 2004 and completed Naval Justice School and a J.D. from Harvard Law School the next year. As a Judge Advocate General officer, he was assigned as a military prosecutor. He was later assigned to Joint Task Force-Guantanamo, working directly with suspected terrorists held at the Guantanamo Bay Joint Detention Facility. In 2007, the future congressman was assigned to SEAL Team One. He deployed to Iraq as legal advisor to the SEAL commander, Special Operations Task Force-West in Fallujah. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Iraq Campaign Medal.”
