During tomorrow’s meeting of the St Johns County Tourist Development Council, among other business items on the agenda, members will review and approve recommendations from the St Johns County Arts, Culture and Heritage Funding Panel for distribution of $500,000 in bed-tax money for marketing twenty-two local events.
During public comments, Historic City News has been informed that some non-profit organizations that were overlooked for funding altogether may make a final, three-minute appeal for reconsideration.
An additional $495,940 in requests from fourteen local organizations will go unfunded in fiscal 2013, unless the Tourist Development Council overrides the funding panel recommendations. Final approval for the distribution of the money rests with the Board of County Commissioners, who has traditionally followed the recommendation of the lower appointed boards.

The events recommended for funding requested a total of $667,275, but received various portions of the $500,000 available to be awarded based on scores assessed by the St Johns County Arts, Culture and Heritage Funding Panel.
