Letter: Allow sidewalk dining on San Marco
Laura Jane Puckett
St Augustine, FL
I’ve been working with St Augustine Vice-Mayor Nancy Sikes-Klein and City Commissioner Leanna Freeman to try to allow outdoor sidewalk dining along San Marco Avenue in North City.
Our tenant at 35 San Marco wants to put out a few bistro tables; but, he keeps getting shut down by code enforcement.
Naples began allowing sidewalk dining about 10 years ago and it completely changed the face and appeal of the downtown area. Outdoor dining always lingers in our memories of any city where it’s available, and it has certainly made an impact on Aviles Street.
Sidewalk dining along San Marco Avenue would go a long way towards the beautification and improvement of one of the main entrance corridors to the city.
