Many of Florida’s 161 state parks will be decorated with lights or hosting special holiday activities and Governor Rick Scott has joined the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Park Service to invite Historic City News readers to join them as they celebrate the winter holiday season.
Our state parks, together with 10 state trails, totaling nearly 800,000 acres, 100 miles of beaches and more than 1,500 miles of multi-use trails, inspire residents and visitors with recreation opportunities and scenic beauty that help strengthen families, educate children, expand local economies and foster community pride.
“The holidays are a great time for Floridians and their guests to visit our award-winning state parks,” Scott told Historic City News local reporters. “Seasonal events are just one reason why more than 25 million people visit our parks each year.”
The Florida Park Service is the proud recipient of three National Gold Medals for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management from the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration and the National Recreation and Park Association; making Florida America’s first three-time Gold Medal winner.
“Our parks offer something for everyone, whether you like kayaking, hiking, exploring caverns or spending a day on the beach,” said Department of Environmental Protection Secretary, Herschel T. Vinyard Jr. “I encourage all Floridians to visit one of our state parks any time of year, but especially with glistening holiday lights and shows on display.”
