Castillo de San Marcos National Monument is pleased to announce to Historic City News readers that it will host students entering 5th grade (ages 9-11) during its Second Annual Hands-On-History Camp this summer.
Three weeks of camp will be held at the Castillo on June 9-13, June 23-27, and July 7-11. Fort Matanzas National Monument is also joining in the fun and hosting a fourth week, Hands-on-History & Nature Camp, July 21-25.
All four camps run Monday-Friday; from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. National Park Service staff and volunteers will join student campers in hands-on activities and projects featuring a variety of themes that highlight the history of the forts and St. Augustine.
The camps cover a variety of topics, including: Archaeology, Native Americans, Nature, Spanish Exploration, Navigation, Colonial Florida, Masonry, Spanish Military and Artillery. Students will have the opportunity to work on projects such as pottery, leatherwork, cloth dyes, coquina, tabby, musket drills and more.
Space is limited; sign your child up soon to take advantage of this opportunity. The cost for camp is $25. Registration begins on Tuesday, May 13.
