Historic City News readers will appreciate the latest historical fiction novel by south Florida author Tami Lynne, when she brings the decadence of the Gilded Age into stunning detail with the release of “The Czarina of Florida”.
Just released this month, “The Czarina of Florida” is embossed with all the splendor of a time lost to the pages of history. Revisiting hotels still standing testament to the grander of the Flagler name, the novel titillates — even as it shows the desperation of a man determined to overcome the poverty of his childhood. By turning his ambition to the development of the state, Flagler made Florida into the place to see and be seen.
“Living on the edge of the Everglades, I knew of Henry Flagler when I decided to explore the reality of the man behind the fame,” Lynne told local Historic City News reporters in an interview announcing a special book-signing event in St Augustine. “Let’s just say, I found more skeletons than I bargained for in those Tiffany-decorated closets. I drew from my psychology degree to try and decode the insanity of Mr. Flagler’s second wife, Alice.”
Tami Lynne, author of the “Children of the Moon” series, set out to explore the marshy backwaters of 19th century Florida just as Henry Flagler began to turn it into the resort destination of the era. Her latest, “The Czarina of Florida”, gives a first-person perspective of the relationship between Henry Flagler and his second wife, Ida Alice Shourds. A former stage actress, Alice was determined to upset the stodgy confines of turn-of-the-century society – at all costs. And with Henry Flagler’s vast wealth, the cost would be high.
The author has invited all Historic City News readers to attend the event; scheduled for Saturday, February 1, at The Hyppo in St Augustine; located at 1765 Tree Blvd., Suite 5. The event will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Limited copies of “The Czarina of Florida” will be available for purchase at the event. The book is available for purchase at tami-lynne.com and advance purchase is recommended.
