City Commissioners will take another look at staff efforts to close an estimated $1.7-$1.8 million shortfall in next year’s budget at a public workshop at 3:30 p.m. in the Alcazar Room on Monday.
Under consideration are a combination of increases in taxes, fire assessment fees and electric utility taxes. Commissioners last week approved a tentative millage rate increase of more than a one mill, to bring city revenue to the same level as this year.
Chief Operations Officer Tim Burchfield cautions the millage increase proposal “is just that – tentative,” as city staff continues to seek the least painful budget balance.
Traditional annual budget workshops are scheduled for Thursday and Friday, August 20-21, at 9 a.m., with public hearings on the final budget Thursday, September 3, and Thursday, September 17, both at 5:05 p.m.
All budget workshops are public meetings and are held in the Alcazar Room at City Hall.
