Feedback sought for upcoming A1A projects


St. Johns County Principal Planner Vickie Renna invites all Historic City News readers to attend the following public meetings regarding A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway and their upcoming projects.

The workshops are an opportunity for participants to learn about the project designs and offer feedback.

Scenic & Historic A1A Corridor Management Council Meeting – Monday, December 14, 3:00 – 5:00 pm at the Main Library, 1960 N. Ponce de Leon Boulevard.

Project Open House to discuss design of Northern Gateway, Pier Park Kiosk and Pope Road Scenic Outlook – Monday, December 14, 5:00 – 6:00 pm at the Main Library, 1960 N. Ponce de Leon Boulevard.

Project Open House to discuss Pier Park Kiosk – Thursday, December 17, 6:00 – 7:00 pm at St. Augustine Beach City Hall, 2200 A1A South.

At each meeting participants will be invited to view and discuss proposed drawings for the respective projects prior to designs being finalized.

The future Northern Gateway Sign will be located along State Road A1A in Ponte Vedra relatively close to the Duval/St. Johns County line.

The Pier Park Kiosk will be located in Pier Park adjacent to A1A in St. Augustine Beach.

The future Pope Road Scenic Outlook will be located off Pope Road east of SR A1A.

All three projects are anticipated to be complete by December 2010 or early 2011, and all are funded through Federal Highway Administration National Scenic Byway grant dollars.

The A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway is a 72-mile section of State Road A1A from the St. Johns/Duval County line south to the Flagler/Volusia County line. The meetings are a partnership of St. Johns County, the Friends of A1A and the City of St. Augustine Beach.
