In a communication received by the local St. Augustine news desk, The Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine has announced to Historic City News the schedule of Masses for Ash Wednesday as well as other special services during the season of Lent.
On Ash Wednesday, February 17th, ashes will be blessed and distributed during Mass at 7:00 a.m., 12:00 noon and 7:00 p.m. In addition, ashes will be distributed during the 8:15 a.m. Mass that is celebrated for the children of Cathedral Parish School.
During the season of Lent, a forty day period which Christians use to prepare for the celebrations of Christ’s passion, death and resurrection, the Cathedral will also offer an additional Mass on Friday’s at 12:00 noon. Mass is regularly scheduled in the Cathedral at 7:00 a.m. Monday through Saturday.
Beginning February 19th at 4:30 p.m. and continuing all the Fridays of at the Prince of Peace Votive Church (located at 101 San Marco Ave.), there will be the celebration of Evening Prayer and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
Also beginning February 19, Stations of the Cross, a traditional feature of Lenten devotional life in the Catholic Church, will be held on Friday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the Cathedral.
