“It’s time to enter” Kim Collins, Community Awareness Coordinator at Betty Griffin House, told local news reporters; speaking to Historic City News readers who are contestants in their upcoming art and poetry project — “A Day Without Violence” calendar.
The deadline is April 12, 2010, to be judged for the Betty Griffin House 2011 edition.
Thirteen art winners and twelve poets will each receive cash prizes and will have their art or poem published in the “2011 A Day Without Violence” calendar, which will be distributed free to every classroom in the county, pending funding.
The project is open to all St. Johns County students ages 6 – 18, whether they attend public school, private school or are home schooled. Entry forms have been delivered via e-mail to participating schools. You can receive one by contacting Betty Griffin House.
Winners will be honored at an award ceremony this October. Winning art and poetry will be displayed at the ceremony. The top one hundred pieces of art will also be selected, and exhibited at the Ponce de Leon Mall during October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Winners will receive a color, framed copy of their art to keep. Students submitting poems should keep a copy for themselves.
All entries should be dropped off at either Betty Griffin House Thrift Shoppe location or any of the 6 county libraries. Look for the decorated entry box.
For entry forms and contest rules, contact your child’s school or call 904-808-9984.
