Effective today, Friday, February 19th, the local St. Augustine news desk has received word from Public Information Coordinator Cathy DuPont that the Hamilton Upchurch Neighborhood Park will reopen for regular hours.
The public can visit the park from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Monday through Sunday. Most recently the park was open only on the weekends.
After it was determined that sound patterns from skateboarding were becoming a nuisance, the city installed a sound attenuation wall the length of the skateboarding area. During the upcoming weeks the wall will be completely painted with landscaping and sidewalk improvements being made.
Cost of the improvements totaled more than $70,000.
Upchurch Park’s family-friendly elements make it appealing to people of all ages. There is a picnic area, a fitness trail, playground equipment, nature overlook, and the beginner inline and skateboarding area.
A reminder that all skateboarders are required to wear safety helmets and parents of children under the age of 17 must sign a consent waiver.
Forms are available on the city website at www. staugustinegovernment.com or can be picked up at the Surf Station at 1020 Anastasia Blvd. or the City Financial Services Center, 50 Bridge Street — where the completed forms must be returned.
While the city encourages use of the park, the St. Augustine Police Department will continue to monitor the park for compliance by skateboarders.
