2011 Hispanic Heritage Festival a success

Vanessa Baker reported to the St. Augustine and St. Johns County events desk at Historic City News that this year’s Hispanic Heritage Festival was a well-attended success.

Yesterday’s events were held on the grounds at the clubhouse of Palencia from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Of course, what would a fiesta be without food? There was plenty to eat and drink and opportunities for outdoor socializing in “chamber of commerce” weather.

The entertainment included authentic Spanish dancing, music and booths from area schools and vendors that gave those in attendance a feeling of being at a fall fiesta.

Local high school Spanish clubs represented different Spanish Countries.

There were Zumba, Tango and Salsa demonstrations.

The kids were not overlooked in the planning — a bounce house and face painting was available for their enjoyment.

St. Augustine’s favorite, “Men of Menendez” performed a thrill-packed live re-enactment to a captivated audience.
