Historic City News reporters were informed today that brothers Michael and Shawn Cona, whose residence is at 48 Fischer Lane in Palm Coast, are in custody in the Flagler County Jail charged with the June 22nd robbery of the Hancock Bank on Palm Coast Parkway.

Detectives say that 30 year-old Shawn Cona drove the get-away car during the robbery. A warrant for his arrest was served inside the Flagler County Inmate Facility where he has been in custody on unrelated drug charges since June 24th.

An arrest warrant was served Friday on his 28 year-old brother, Michael Cona, who detectives said walked into the bank shortly before 3:00 p.m. on June 22nd and demanded money.

According to statements obtained from witnesses, Michael Cona brandished a gun and threatened to shoot bank tellers and customers.

“These two men are a danger to the community,” said Flagler County Sheriff Donald W. Fleming. “They are drug dealers and now robbers. They need to be off the streets.”

Michael Cona is being held on a charge of robbery with a firearm in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Shawn Cona is charged with robbery with a firearm and felony driving with a suspended driver’s license in addition to several drug charges. His total bond is $116,500.
