Delay in hopes of finding additional bids

SPECIAL OFFER FOR HISTORIC CITY NEWS READERS

City staff reported to Historic City News that they will recommend to St. Augustine City Commissioners Monday that a period for proposals be extended to August 11th after only one bid was submitted regarding the North City Water Works building.

Colin Bingham, who proposed renovation of the dilapidated and vacant property, was the lone bidder to lease, repair, and put the building to use for community gatherings.

A non-profit Community Development Coalition Corporation would be created to enter into the agreement with the city, Bingham says.

Bingham made a bid to lease the property for $350 for an undetermined initial term. Bingham has asked for 30-year renewal options.

If you are planning to attend — the regular St. Augustine City Commission meeting will begin at 5:00 p.m. Monday and will be held in the Alcazar Room; on the first floor of City Hall, located at 75 King Street in St. Augustine. It will be broadcast live on Comcast Government TV (Cable Channel 3) and is streamed over the Internet.
