Historic City News readers who live and work on Anastasia Island including the Pelican Reef area may notice some temporary discoloration of their water as the St. Augustine Fire Department conducts flow and hydrant inspections.
As weather permits, the St. Augustine Fire Department will continue to flow test fire hydrants each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon (except on holidays) between 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
The testing process may cause a temporary discoloration of the water supply therefore check the color of the water prior to washing clothes or drinking.
The water is not harmful to drink and discoloration is due to water pressure moving through the water lines, Public Information Director Paul K. Williamson told reporters.
Flow testing is needed to plan firefighting operations and to ensure water flow in the event of a fire. Testing also maintains the stabilization of homeowner’s insurance rates within the City.
