Yoda Fordem, President of St. Augustine Air Shows, informed local Historic City News reporters that an airshow tradition dating back to 1967 will continue on Memorial Day Weekend at Northeast Florida Regional Airport at St. Augustine.
This two day event on May 28th and May 29th will be an exhilarating throwback to classic airshow troupes of the 60’s; with a special “Salute to Veterans” past and present.
“The event will be spectacular,” Fordem promised Historic City News readers. “There will be performances by world-renown aerobatic pilots as well as many outstanding military exhibits and static displays.”
From the amazing daredevil feats of wing-walker Teresa Stokes to the elegant aerobatics of Gene Soucy in the “ShowCat” bi-plane, the Airshow Aces will provide inspired entertainment for the entire family. Performers include Kent Pietsch, Warren Pietsch, Gene Soucy, Teresa Stokes, and Todd Green. The captivating show honoring our military will be narrated by seasoned air-show announcer, Danny Clisham.
“We are planning events for the whole family that recognize and support the contributions made by our veterans,” said Fordem. “This will be a celebration of the true spirit of Memorial Day.”
Gates open at 9:30 a.m. and the airshow begins at 1:00 p.m. The excitement builds beginning with the opening jump, through the car-top landing, solos, wing-walking, team act, dead-stick and transfer act, in addition to the more traditional aerobatic demonstration. Gates close at 4:00 p.m.
The staff managing the airshow is committed to ensuring the audience has an enjoyable time; safety is a key factor. “Plan to come out and make the most of your time,” Fordem said, “but, please do observe the guidelines.”
