As part of a $1.4 million safety improvement project at the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument in St Augustine, sidewalks along Castillo Drive are being widened and resurfaced in preparation for the historic city’s spring vacationers.
Jacksonville geotechnical, environmental and materials engineers with Nodarse and Associates, Inc. have been implementing upgrades that include a wider, coquina and concrete sidewalk, a new traffic signal, and countdown pedestrian lights.
A new 16-foot-wide brick crossing at Cuna Street and Fort Alley will better handle pedestrian traffic.
Sidewalk improvements in downtown St Augustine also include a new style “brick-banded” sidewalk installed on Cordova Street — adjacent to the Lightner Museum building.
