Activities update from Parks Department


St Johns County Recreation and Parks Department updated Historic City News about upcoming outdoor activities for local residents and visitors during the coming weeks — including special events, activities at the beach, adult activities, youth activities and news from the St Johns Golf Club.

Special Events

3rd Annual Turtle Trot & Beach Clean Up – Don’t miss Osceola Elementary & Keepers of the Coast’s Turtle Trot February 25th at 3:00 p.m., Turtle Trot Expo Friday, February 24th, and pre-race beach clean up on Saturday morning. These are great family events and the race is fun for all ages and abilities whether you walk or run! Get more information at

Annual Easter Egg Hunt – Join us and our sponsors as we celebrate Easter with our Annual Egg Hunt at Treaty Park in St. Augustine. Staff transform fields into the Easter Bunny’s playground with treats, games, refreshments, pictures with the Bunny himself, and more, at this fun filled event.

8th Annual Bartram Bash – Come celebrate William Bartram’s Birthday and Earth Day at Alpine Groves April 21st, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Free food, crafts, games, and more. For more details, contact Beverly Fleming (904) 522-1573.

Just TRI It! A Kids Triathlon – April 22nd come out for the fifth annual Just TRI It!, a non-competitive triathlon for children ages 5-12. Hosted by the Children’s Museum of St. Johns, along with partners St. Johns County, and the YMCA of Florida’s First Coast. This fun and safe race course is located at the Solomon Calhoun Center in West St. Augustine. All participants of Just TRI It! are awarded medals for their achievement, regardless of their finishing times. Visit the race website for more information.


Pre-Season Beach Passes Now on Sale – Beach driving passes are available now at pre-season prices of $30 for St. Johns County residents and $40 for non-residents. Passes may be purchased at the St. Johns County Pier, Tax Collector’s Offices and Recreation and Parks Office. The price increases by $10 on March 2nd. More information at or call (904) 209-0333.

Adult Activities

Coed & Men’s Softball League @ Treaty Park – Managers’ meetings Thursday, February 23rd. Coed at 6:30pm, Men’s at 7:30pm. Treaty Park pavilion, next to the playground. All managers or representatives must attend. It is advised that if you are to manage a team or want to join a team that you attend. Coed league plays Monday evenings starting Monday, March 12th. Church Softball League @ Treaty Park – Managers’ meeting Thursday, March 8th at 6:30pm at the Treaty Park pavilion next to the playground. All managers or representatives must attend. Church League plays on Friday evenings starting March 23rd. If interested, please contact or (904) 209-0385.

Men’s League & Over 50 Softball @ Mills Field – Managers’ meeting Monday, February 13th at 7:00 pm & 8:00 p.m. at Veterans Park. All managers or representatives must attend. If interested, please contact Jim Ed Williams at or call (904) 945-0696.

Tennis Clinic – Twelve week adult clinic at the courts on Orange Street, Mondays 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Runs March 5 to May 21. Pre-registration required. Register February 1st – 29th at the St. Johns County Recreation and Parks Department, 2175 Mizell Rd. Lights Off – As part of cost saving measures, all lights at Treaty Park, except for the Skate Park, will be shut down through February 17th. This includes the racquetball, basketball, tennis and paddle tennis courts, softball and multi-purpose fields. Lights will be back on February 18th, at their regular time. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Youth Activities

Super Summer Spectacular – St. Johns County Recreation & Parks Department will be holding the Lottery Registration for the 2012 Super Summer Spectacular program beginning March 5th at 8:00 a.m. and ending on March 16th at 5:00 p.m. The lottery drawing will take place on March 31st all results will be mailed by April 6th. Summer Specialty Camps – For the first time ever St. Johns County Recreation & Parks Department will be hosting specialty camps during the summer. We will be offering six different half-day camps including Golf, Volleyball (ages 12-14), TOT’S Basketball (ages 7-11), Introduction to Fishing (ages 7-12), Intro to Sports (pre-K), and Speed & Agility Training (middle & high school). St. Johns Golf Club

Golf Clinics – Join us for weekly clinics! All clinics are taught by PGA instructors with a new topic each week! Ladies only, Fridays @ 11:00 a.m. Open to all, Saturdays @ 9:00 a.m. Parent / Child, Saturday, May 5, 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. & 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.

Free Demo Days – St. Johns Golf Club professional staff will be on hand to offer advice on equipment and help with your purchases. Saturday, February 11th, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Representatives from Titleist, NIKE, Cobra, Cleveland Golf and PING.
Wednesday, March 7th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Representatives from Taylor Made.

PGA Free Fitting & Trade-In Month – April 1st through the 30th PGA Professional Staff will be conducting free 15 minute fittings and club evaluations by appointment. To make an appointment please call (904) 209-0350.
