Charter school denials on special meeting agenda

Christina Langston, Director of Community Relations for the St Johns County School District, updated Historic City News reporters in St Augustine with a revised agenda for next week’s special School Board meeting.

The Board will be asked to approve the 2012-2013 “Five-Year District Facilities Work Plan”; but, the majority of the agenda is consumed with three requests for denial of charter school applications.

Staff will ask for denial of charter application between the St Johns County School Board and Somerset Academy St Johns, both for a K-8 program as well as for Somerset Academy High School St Johns.

A request will also be heard for denial of charter application between the St Johns County School Board and Kid’s Community College.

Public comments will follow the requests and then there will be closing comments from the Board and Superintendent.

Your school board members are Beverly Slough, District I; Tommy Allen, District 2; Bill Mignon, District 3; Bill Fehling, District 4; and Carla Wright, District 5.

If you are planning to attend, the meeting will be held in the School Board Auditorium at the St Johns County School District offices; located at 40 Orange Street in St Augustine. The meeting will convene on Tuesday evening, September 25, 2012 beginning at 6:00 p.m. Please turn off cellular phones during the meeting and if you wish to speak during public comments, please complete a speaker card and turn it in to the secretary before the meeting.
