Jazz Society hosts fundraiser

The St Augustine Jazz Society hosted a scholarship fundraiser event on Sunday to raise funds for students to continue their music education.
“Since our inception,” said Wanda Nord, SAJS President, “we have raised, and given away, in the neighborhood of $80,000”.
Members of the society put it all on the line by lip-synching to hits from the 40s to the 80s. “Lip-Synching is more work than just letting it rip,” said Nord. “Normally the words just roll. In lip-synch we work with a recording instead of our band, so the timing is not a naturally occurring event.”
The audience was kind. Everyone had such a good time there was only applause and a wolf whistle or two for the fireman.
The Andrews Sisters, Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys(Kokomo), The guy who can’t remember, Bobby Darin performing a very interesting “Splish Splash”, Two Beards and a Blonde, Liza Minnelli and a host of others.
The clear winner of the day was “My Ding-a-Ling”, made famous by Chuck Berry. History buffs will recall the lyrics with their double-entendre innuendo caused many radio stations to refuse to play it.
