Local student brings authenticity to acting role

Communications Director Miki Gilloon, reported to Historic City News that Kristina Garcia-Santiago, a senior attending the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, will perform the lead role of “Sarah Norman” when the Limelight Theater in St Augustine presents “Children of a Lesser God”.

The off-Broadway production of the Tony Award-winning play, by Mark Medoff, centers on Sarah Norman; a troubled young deaf woman working at a school for the deaf in New England.

Her character meets an energetic young teacher named James Leeds, who challenges her to learn to speak, but their conflicting ideologies on speech and deafness are put to the test.

“Children of a Lesser God” will run from April 19 – May 13; with signed performances scheduled to take place on April 19, April 26 and May 3 at 7:30 p.m. Other show times can be found on the Limelight Theatre website.
