At about 3:00 a.m. this morning, Historic City News local reporters were informed by Public Information Officer Lt. Jeremy Robshaw that St Johns County firefighters were in route to a Walden Chase residence that was fully engulfed in flames.
Neighbors informed arriving crews that the single-family home in the 2000 block of Chaucer Lane was vacant. Incoming Fire-Rescue personnel found significant smoke and flames visible from the street.
Firefighters established a water supply and began a defensive attack on the flames while attempting to protect the two homes located directly adjacent to the structure.
“The fire was officially brought under control in approximately 20 min, but crews remained on scene for several hours completing salvage and overhaul operations at the site,” Robshaw told reporters.
Due to extensive fire damage, the primary structure will be listed as a total loss with official dollar value estimates undetermined at this time. The adjacent homes were spared any fire damage, although there was plenty of smoke and heat.
There were no medical injuries reported during this incident.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by St Johns County Fire Rescue and the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
