An 18-year-old Bowie, Maryland girl, arrested and booked about 11:30 p.m. last night, is still in custody in lieu of $500 bond. Historic City News learned that the teenager was arrested in a sting operation conducted by the St Augustine Police Department.Sophie Elizabeth Granzow, whose address was reported as 16914 Queen Anne Bridge Rd in Bowie, is being held on two charges; a second-degree misdemeanor charge for a first offense of liquor possession by a person under 21-years-old, and a first-degree misdemeanor charge of resisting or obstructing a police officer without violence. Each charge requires a $250 bond.
We conducted an underage drinking and fake identification sting in the downtown area last night,” Mark Samson told local reporters. “Officers were able to identify 12 people for underage drinking, two of those were juveniles.”
A disturbing discovery made during the arrests was that eight of the underage drinkers were in possession of fake ID cards, sophisticated enough to fool seasoned security officers working for the establishments.
“We believe that these fake ID cards are from China,” Samson added. “The Department will continue to look into the source of these fake ID cards.”
In addition to Granzow, citations were issued to those caught drinking alcoholic beverages, including:
