Historic City News readers in affected areas of St Augustine and St Johns County are warned to stay indoors tonight, Wednesday, October 19th, between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. while the Anastasia Mosquito Control District performs overhead spraying to combat the outbreak of mosquitoes due to Hurricane Matthew and local flooding.
The spray area will include Flagler Estates, Armstrong, Nocatee, St. Johns, St. Augustine, and West Augustine.
“Please remain indoors along with all pets during this time,” Mosquito Control Director, Dr. Rui-De Xue, told local reporters. “All St. Johns County recreational fields will be closed to the public for use during the aerial spray.”
The decision to conduct aerial spraying for mosquitos lies solely with the Anastasia Mosquito Control District, which is an independent special district created by the Florida Legislature and is not under the jurisdiction of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners.
Questions and concerns regarding the aerial spray can be directed to the Anastasia Mosquito Control District at 904.471.3107.
