Tea Party will receive Confederate Memorial update

SPECIAL OFFER FOR HISTORIC CITY NEWS READERS

Historic City News readers and guests are patriotically invited to attend the open meeting of the Saint Augustine Tea Party on Tuesday March 13th, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Village Inn located at 900 North Ponce de Leon Boulevard, St. Augustine. Their special guest will be Jill Pacetti, a candidate for St. Augustine City Commission, Seat 4.

Pacetti, whose family name appears on the St. Augustine Confederate Memorial, will update participants with an overview of what is happening with the seven-member Confederate Memorial Contextualization Advisory Committee and discuss planned steps for the Save Our History Coalition in St. Augustine.

Last October, the St. Augustine City Commission voted unanimously to preserve the 146-year-old memorial obelisk across from the public market building in the Plaza de la Constitucion. This memorial was built and paid for by the Ladies Memorial Association of Saint Augustine in the 1800’s.

Pacetti was instrumental in producing an influential petition with almost 12,000 signatures in support of retaining the city-owned monument. She will be available after the program to answer individual questions from the audience, time permitting. The meeting and program are free of charge and open to the public.
