St. Johns County Sheriff’s spokesman Chuck Mulligan informed Historic City News local reporters that SR-206, closed today due to reduced visibility, is re-opening at this time.
Jeremy Robshaw, Public Information Officer with St. Johns County Fire Rescue, reported that emergency personnel responded to an initial E-911 call of an escaped yard debris burn with structures in danger located between US-1 and the Intracoastal Waterway.
Both Flagler County and St. Johns County Fire Rescue personnel and equipment, as well as the Florida Division of Forestry responded to the blaze that grew to about twenty acres and was not contained within Division of Forestry fire lines until nearly 5:00 p.m.
At one point earlier today, a helicopter from Flagler County Fire Rescue responded; giving air support to crews on the ground, successfully defending several homes.
”Firefighters are continuing mop up and perform extinguishment,” Robshaw told Historic City News.
“They will maintain a presence through the night to contain and prevent any potential flare ups.”
While no homes sustained damages, one detached garage and travel trailer were damaged by the fire.
