Chris Stone reported to Historic City News the results of the one-day, annual homeless count required in order to be eligible for federal funds.
45 volunteers canvassed the county on January 25th and determined that St. Johns County’s homeless population has increased by 350, from last year’s count of 1,236 to 1,586.
“Two hundred surveys were completed to provide greater insight into homelessness,” Stone said. The “Point in Time Count” results were presented during the Homeless Coalition monthly meeting last week.
Two-thirds of those counted were male; 415 were younger than 18 and from the surveys 41 said they were veterans and 70 suffer disabilities.
