Communication Week starts March 7th

Flagler College will host Communication Week from March 7th through March 10, 2011.

This year’s Communication Week will feature several returning speakers and alumni, while also hosting first-time speakers who will be talking to interested students about their careers in all areas of communication.

“Communication Week 2011 will bring together a diversified mix of public relations, journalism, broadcast, and cinema-media professionals from across the country,” said Rosemary Tutt, APR, assistant professor of communication and faculty coordinator for Communication Week 2011.

This year, Flagler College welcomes Craig Kronenberger, senior vice president and managing director of Southeast Digital for Edelman in Atlanta, as its keynote speaker. As a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and a 17-year marketing veteran, Kronenberger has made his niche working in various markets.

Prior to his affiliation with Edelman, Kronenberger also co-founded Xeko, a social gaming and consumer goods company that helped to develop an engagement strategy to empower individuals to do good in the world through gaming. In 1993, Kronenberger co-founded PLNi and later in 1998 he co-founded Spunky Entertainment, ultimately serving as a leader and key developer in digital media.

“This year’s Communication Week lineup is as strong a group of speakers as we have ever hosted,” said Associate Professor and Communication Department Chair Dr. Tracy Halcomb. “I think all Flagler College students, not solely Communication majors, could definitely benefit from the information these speakers have to share.”

This sixth annual event includes a series of presenters and open discussion panels with several communication professionals. Speakers include Robbie Gordon, producer for ABC News “Prime Time” and “20/20;” Josh Koster, managing partner of Chong+Koster, a communications agency in Washington, D.C.; Jerry Smith, the founder and CEO of Jerry Smith Film and Television Inc.; Flagler alumnus Shane Tallant, host of “Tennessee Mornings” on WZTV Fox-17 in Nashville; and Tracey Eaton, assistant professor at Flagler College and a journalist and photographer. Eaton is a working staff writer for seven daily newspapers and in 2010 received a Pulitzer Center grant for his reporting work in Cuba.

Kronenberger is scheduled to speak Monday, March 7, at 11 a.m., and other speakers and panels will be conducted at various times throughout the week. Feature speaker Shane Tallant will speak at 9 a.m. Thursday morning, March 10. All presentations will take place in the Gamache-Koger Theater of the Ringhaver Student Center, 50 Sevilla St. Panels, keynote and featured speakers will be open to the public.

The Flagler College chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America and the Flagler Communication Department sponsor and host this event each year.
