St. Johns County Code Enforcement reported to Historic City News that they have implemented a new computerized, automatic phone-dialing system to assist officials in gaining compliance with ordinances that prohibit signs from being placed in the County’s right-of-way.
This new technology has been implemented successfully in nearby counties, and, through coordinated efforts with the MIS department, will assist Code Enforcement in working more efficiently.
Now, when Code Enforcement officials become aware of illegally placed signs, they enter telephone information into the new VOICENT system. The computer program generates a detailed message about illegal use of the County right-of-way.
According to a statement from County Administrator, Michael Wanchick, the system will persist in placing calls and leaving the detailed message until the respondent calls Code Enforcement to confirm that all illegally placed signs have been removed and Code Enforcement verifies that they are gone.
The system is setup to initiate the notice calls only on weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.
