St. Johns County Social Services staff members have been participating in the local “Home Again St. Johns” initiative that addresses both the housing and food needs of the homeless in our community.
The group, led by Mike Davis, found that one challenge facing the homeless population is, not necessarily the availability of food, but, rather, delivery of the food — where it is needed.
With hard work from Health and Human Services personnel, and great community support from the Sertoma Club, Pie in the Sky, and other community organizations, a new truck brigade was formed.
This partnership has distributed more than 20,000 pounds of food in the past seven weeks.
County Administrator Michael Wanchick offered congratulations to Home Again St. Johns “for successfully mobilizing a volunteer base and utilizing existing resources to distribute more food to those in need.”
