A firefighter for the City of St. Augustine for more than 21 years, James (J. C.) Costeira was promoted to the rank of Captain in a ceremony held at the St. Augustine Fire Department on Monday, April 14, 2008.
Costeira, who achieved the rank of lieutenant in July 2000, is shown being pinned for his most recent promotion by his wife, Gay.
Over the years he has earned certifications as a fire instructor, fire safety inspector, fire officer and hazardous materials technician. He is currently a member of the Special Operations Team which coordinates with St. Johns County Fire Service.
J.C. and his wife, Gay, have three children; Teddy, Ryan and Amy. His father, James Costeira, was a City of St. Augustine commissioner in the late 1980’s.
He is active in coaching youth sports and likes to spend time with his family. Additionally, he has consistently donated his time to many charitable functions over the past years, as well as volunteering to cook for the city employees at city cook-outs.
