Water main break affects 350 homes in Wildwood

Greg Mills reported to Historic City News that work is still in progress as a result of a water main break affecting about 350 homes in the Wildwood area in St. Augustine.

“We have issued a precautionary “boil water” notice,” Mills said. “The subdivisions affected include Wildwood Creek Phases 1 and 2, Fort Peyton, and the Wildwood Addition.”

According to Mills, the streets impacted in the area are limited to Arrowhead Drive, Osprey Circle, Brookside Court, Red Feather Court, Cheyenne Drive, Sea Eagle Circle, Delcie Drive, South Winter Hawk Drive, Fort Peyton Circle, Winter Hawk Court, Fort Peyton Drive, Winter Hawk Drive and Live Oak Court.

Wildwood Utilities crews are on-site repairing the lines at this time according to recent reports.

Under the “precautionary boil water notice”, all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes should be boiled. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative bottled water may be used.

“We anticipate being able to retract this notice by Friday night, March 25th, 2011,” Mills said. In a statement from Wildwood Utilities, they report that these precautionary steps are advised until bacteriological surveys show that the water is safe to drink and a retraction notice is posted — which is typically a minimum of two days.

“A retraction notice will be issued through local media outlets notifying the affected residents that the water is safe to drink,” a spokesman for Wildwood Utilities wrote.

Mills asked, to be safe, “Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses, who may not have received this notice directly. You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.”
