Historic City News reporters take this solemn day to remember all those who have lost their lives at work and to promote safer working conditions for the living.
Workers Memorial Day was founded in 1984 by the Canadian Union of Public Employees.
April 28th was chosen because it is the anniversary of the Occupational Health and Safety Act in the United States and it commemorates the day of a horrific construction accident in Connecticut that claimed 28 lives.
2010 was the first year the United Kingdom officially recognized Workers Memorial Day, even thought trade unions in Great Brittan have organized events on and around this day since 1989.
So, for all you working stiffs out there, Historic City News salutes you.
