The City of St. Augustine reported to Historic City News that they will continue the process of finalizing and adopting the budget for the coming fiscal year and that every opportunity is being made to inform and invite the public into this important annual activity.
As is the process each year, the commission will first meet in a workshop to discuss with staff the proposed budget, and offer any final changes. The public then has two opportunities to offer its input in meetings scheduled just for that purpose.
Only then, will the commission vote on the final proposal.
The commission’s budget workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, August 24 starting at 9:00am.
The two public hearings are scheduled for September 8 and 22 each starting at 5:05pm.
All three meetings will be held in The Alcazar Room at City Hall, 75 King Street.
The city’s budget, which goes into effect on October 1st, includes seven separate funds:
• General Fund
• Utility Fund
• Stormwater Fund
• Solid Waste Fund
• Municipal Marina Fund
• Heritage Tourism Fund
• Community Redevelopment Agency Fund
The General Fund and the Community Redevelopment Agency Fund are supported by ad valorem taxes. The five remaining funds are “enterprise funds” which means they are funded through service fees and must be financially self-supporting.

If you are planning to attend the workshop, it will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will be held in the Alcazar Room; on the first floor of City Hall, located at 75 King Street in St. Augustine.
