Letter: Tea Party petitions Mica on Saturday

Dear Editor:

While you celebrated New Year’s Eve, President Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act into law.

The Federal Government now claims the right to permit indefinite detention of U.S. citizens without access to a lawyer or a trial. The government is not required to bring charges.

Where is Fox News, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS or the print media on this treasonous act that politicians on both sides of the aisle voted for?

This law effectively shreds the Bill of Rights.

It is rather easy to set up circumstances that violate the 4th, 5th, and 6th amendments to the Constitution due to “fussy language”. It has been my experience that when lawyers use “fussy language” they are usually up to no good, looking for job security or they want to fool you.

The National Defense Authorization Act is opposed, on Constitutional grounds, by former New Jersey Superior Court Judge Andrew Napolitano and the American Civil Liberties Union. When people of such differing views agree, there is something wrong.

The issue could have been solved with one sentence of about ten words.

The people responsible for representing the interests of State of Florida and the citizens of the 7th congressional district of Florida in Washington D.C., two Republicans and one
Democrat, have failed to honor their Oath to the Constitution.

The Saint Augustine Tea Party though the Town Crier Committee, will sound the alarm.

We look for your input.

The Town Criers are presenting a petition to Congressman Mica’s office at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7.

After the presentation of the petition, supporters will reassemble in the downtown area for the start of this New Year of promoting the Tea Party by distributing our Constitutions.

Dinner plans will be made for those who wish to partake after our duties.
