Community Affairs Officer Barbara Clifford of the St. Augustine Police Department reported to Historic City News that an investigation is ongoing into an armed robbery that occurred in the early morning hours Friday.
Police Officer Chris Miller made contact with the robbery victim at Spanish Street, just south of Hypolita Street. The victim told police that he was walking downtown on Treasury Street when an unknown man approached him from behind.
As the victim turned around, he observed a silver revolver pointed at him by the assailant; who demanded money. In fear for his life, the victim gave the robber a $100 dollar bill.
The victim describes the gunman as a white or Hispanic male, approx. 5’09” tall, wearing blue jeans and a white shirt.
The robber left the scene with another man who was driving a dark, late model pick-up truck.
Police unsuccessfully canvassed the area for the truck and robber. According to Clifford, the victim was not physically injured. The investigation is continuing.
