Historic City News was notified by Flagler County Sheriff’s representative Debra Johnson that shots were fired at a Palm Coast man last night; who, the resident says, attempted run him over with the car he used to escape from the scene.
Deputies took 31 year-old Stephen Metcalf into custody shortly after midnight when they located him and the vehicle on Pine Lakes Parkway. He is charged with attempted burglary of an occupied dwelling and resisting arrest without violence. Metcalf was being held in the Flagler County Inmate Facility today, without bond, on the resisting arrest charge.
The victim told investigators that he was sitting in the dark, inside his home, talking on his cell phone, when he heard a noise coming from the rear sliding door. He said that he armed himself with a .40 caliber handgun and turned on all of the interior lights in an attempt to scare off the would-be burglar.
According to the incident report, around 11:12 Wednesday evening, Metcalf reacted by running towards the front of the residence where he had a getaway car parked. The victim ran out of the front door to identify the burglar and his vehicle.
That is the moment when, according to the victim, Metcalf got into his vehicle, put the car in reverse, and then attempted to run him over. The victim reported that he fired three shots at the vehicle, trying to damage the tires, but Metcalf was able to flee.
Both men are familiar with each other, Johnson told Historic City News. The victim played a threatening recorded message for deputies that he says was left for him by Metcalf on May 24. The investigation is continuing.
