The Florida Association of Counties announced to Historic City News that St Johns County Commissioner Cyndi Stevenson has been appointed to the organization’s Legislative Leadership Team as Co-Chair of the Finance, Transportation, and Administration committee this month.
While serving as Co-Chair of the committee, Stevenson will work with the organization’s executive and general membership to develop legislative policies for the 2013 session. In addition, she will assist the lobbying team during legislative committee meetings and the general session to address issues affecting county government.
“I am honored by my appointment to the Legislative Leadership Team and will work diligently as Co-Chair of the committee to represent and serve the Florida Association of Counties,” Stevenson told Historic City News. “The legislative work conducted by the association is integral to ensuring Florida residents and local leaders retain control over the decisions and laws that impact their community.”
Citing Stevenson’s leadership abilities, FAC leaders indicated that she could be called upon to represent the FAC in meeting with key legislators or testifying before legislative committees.
The Association works to help counties effectively serve and represent Floridians by strengthening and preserving county home rule through advocacy, education collaboration and a belief that communities and their local leaders should make the decisions that affect their community.
The organization provides a cohesive platform enabling county officials and staff to speak with a unified voice on behalf of all Floridians, and perform vital public services such as public safety, fire and emergency medical services, jails, parks, and libraries.
Commissioner Stevenson has previously served on the Board of Directors, the Florida Department of Transportation Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Council, and the Energy Conservation Work Group.
In addition, she was appointed to the Florida Legislative Committee on Intergovernmental Relations by Governor Crist. She is a Certified Public Accountant and Auditor, and a native Floridian.
