Rachael Bennett shooting for commissioner

During Saturday’s women’s shoot at the St Augustine Skeet Club, located at 401 Gun Club Road, St Johns County Commission candidate Rachael Bennett took time out from the campaign trail to enjoy some fun and show off her shooting skills.

Bennett, a long time gun owner and strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment, told Historic City News that it was nice to visit the Rod and Gun Club and join in a little friendly competition with fellow sportswomen and her supporters.

According to Bennett, this has been her busiest two weeks since she made her announcement to seek the District 5 commission seat in January.

In addition to two successful fundraisers, Bennett said that she participated in the Politics St Johns event sponsored by the local Chamber of Commerce. “We came within striking distance of our opponent in winning the straw poll,” Bennett told reporters. “With your continued support, I know we will be successful.”

On Friday the 20th, Bennett said that she attended the Council on Aging Candidate Meet and Greet held at the River House in St Augustine. “I continue to be inspired by these individuals and only hope that I have as much energy when I get to be their age,” said Bennett.

Managing her calendar has been one of the hardest parts of reaching the Republican voters before the Primary Election on August 14. She started this week by attending the St Johns County Lincoln Day Dinner with special guests Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll, Senator John Thrasher, Chairman Lenny Curry, and Author Edward Klein.

Tuesday, Bennett hosted an ice cream social for the seniors at Emeritus in St Augustine, and Wednesday, she participated in the League of Women Voters County Commission forum.

Even though she says the campaign can be exhausting, Bennett said that these events are essential to allowing St Johns County Republican voters to see the difference between her and her opponents.

Bennett said that she ended the week by attending the St Augustine Gun Show, walking door to door, and being a celebrity server at the Beach Diner in Ponte Vedra Beach.

“To date, our campaign has reached over 20,000 doors in St Johns County,” Bennett told Historic City News. “I am inspired by our citizens and look forward to continuing to meet them and hear their concerns.”
