Wednesday night, a 21-year old St. Johns County man was arrested on charges of impersonating a police officer, carrying a concealed firearm and use of a firearm while committing a felony according to records from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office that were supplied to Historic City News by Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw.
The suspect was identified as Ryan Mcleod Satz, 21 years of age, residing at 92 Dehaven Street. Satz was booked into the County Jail where he remains on bonds totaling $400,000 following a first appearance hearing this morning.
The investigation began at 9:40 p.m. last night when Deputy Sheriff Simpkiss responded to the area of S.R. 207 and Wildwood Drive regarding a complaint of a “suspicious vehicle”. The complainant reported that a man was seen driving a white Chevrolet Tahoe at a high rate of speed on I-95 displaying a flashing blue light on the dashboard.
According to the report, the Tahoe forced another vehicle off the road and was observed driving at a high rate of speed on S.R. 207; turning onto Wildwood Drive, making a u-turn, then heading north on S.R. 207.
A short time later deputies received reports that a subject fitting the description was driving at a high rate of speed on Kings Estate Road flashing a blue light from the dashboard. Sargent Toby Erwin located the vehicle in the area of Kings Estate Road and Old Moultrie Road and stopped the vehicle at Old Moultrie and Lewis Point Roads.
Inside the vehicle, deputies located a .40 caliber handgun in a holster inside the center console of the vehicle along with a blue and red LED light and a large canister of OC pepper spray. Several large knives were located throughout the vehicle along with an expandable baton and a night vision scope.
The suspect had to be further restrained in the patrol car after being taken into custody when he attempted to choke himself with the seatbelt and began to bang his head on the window.
