Women readers of Historic City News will want to enroll now for next month’s free self defense seminar; sponsored by the St. Augustine Police Department.
Ages 10 through adult are welcome,” Community Affairs Officer Barbara Clifford told Historic City News reporters. “This is a great opportunity for mothers to spend the morning, learning with their daughters.”
According to last year’s crime data for the state of Florida, a violent crime occurred every 4 minutes 38 seconds; an aggravated assault every 7 minutes; a forcible sexual assault every hour and 36 minutes and a murder every 8 hours and 37 minutes.
With these statistics in mind, the St Augustine Police Department is hosting a women’s self defense seminar where participants will learn how to recognize and effectively respond to potentially dangerous situations.
Self defense is not about size or strength — but about attitude and skill. The paradox of self-defense is that the more prepared you are to defend yourself; the less likely you are to ever have to.
In this beginner’s level seminar, participants will learn how to use momentum and leverage against an attacker and how to employ practical, easy-to-learn blocks and strikes.
The seminar will be held at the St Augustine Police Department, 151 King Street on June 12, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until Noon
If you would like to attend, please make reservation now through Officer Barbara Clifford (904) 209-3456.
