Communications Manager Michael Ryan provided local Historic City News reporters with an executive summary of action items that came before the St Johns County commission at their regular business meeting yesterday, Tuesday December 18, 2012.
• Special Recognition
The Board presented Sergeant Jason Caban with a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of his outstanding service and contribution to the citizens of St. Johns County. Sergeant Caban was recognized for his recent act of unselfishness to aid a fellow citizen in need of assistance.
• Regular Agenda Item Four – Florida Power & Light Smart Meters
Dave Cobb, North Area Manager for Florida Power & Light (FPL), delivered an informational presentation regarding the company’s smart meter technology.
• Regular Agenda Item Five – Response to the United States Board on Geographic Names
The County has received two formal inquiries from the United States Board on Geographic Names (USBGN) seeking a recommendation on applications that seek to officially name the coastal landmass identified as the land located from the St. Augustine Inlet north to the St. Johns River and bounded on the west by the Intracoastal waterway. Recognizing a February 14, 2013 due date for a response to the USBGN, the Board responded to the inquiries recommending no naming of the island at this time and noted a willingness to review future naming brought forth with public consensus.
• Consent Agenda Item Eleven – Contract Templates
The Board unanimously approved the terms, conditions, and provisions of contract templates for use in creating final agreements with organizations recommended to receive funding for Arts, Culture & Heritage and Leisure & Recreational Events/Programs, respectively, and authorized the County Administrator to execute the final agreements on behalf of St. Johns County.
