Deputy collides with driver while responding to call

A St Johns County deputy was uninjured when another driver turned left in front of his patrol car this morning as he was in route to an emergency call, according to a report received by Historic City News from FHP Sergeant Dylan Bryan.

Making his way to the call at about 9:30 a.m., the 32-year-old deputy, Brandon C. Allsup of St Augustine, was traveling south on Holmes Boulevard in his county-owned 2009 Chevrolet Impala patrol car with his blue lights and siren engaged.

The other vehicle, a 1998 Saturn 2-door coupe operated by 48-year-old Lisa S. Lorenzo, also of St Augustine, was traveling south on Holmes Boulevard attempting to make a left turn onto Butler Avenue.

Trooper Zane Stephens determined from evidence at the scene that Lorenzo failed to yield to the emergency vehicle when she turned left — resulting in the collision. She was taken to Flagler Hospital with minor injuries; her vehicle sustained about $2,000 in damages and she was issued a traffic citation for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

The patrol car suffered about $3,500 in damages, but the deputy was uninjured.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to Trooper Stephens’ report.
