Historic City News local reporters have learned that the current contract between St Johns County and County Attorney Patrick F McCormack expires on April 15, 2013; and, when the county commission meets on next Tuesday, the item will be taken up for discussion.
The County Attorney is one of only two employees hired directly by the Board of County Commissioners — the other is the County Administrator; and, not unlike the contract with Michael Wanchick, the contract with Patrick McCormack is bulging with compensation far above the average St Johns County resident.
Compensation in the 2008 contract:
• Annual base salary of $152,000
• Qualified deferred compensation program contribution of $5,000 per year
• County-owned and County-maintained vehicle or $300 monthly allowance
• Twenty (20) days paid vacation per year
• Full contribution to Florida State Retirement System
• Accidental death insurance policy for $500,000
• Allowed to hold part-time employment, such as teaching or consulting work
• Vacation leave and sick leave as permitted in the County’s Administrative Code
• Individual and family health insurance at County expense
• Insurance continuation for a period of 6-months after termination
• Lump sum settlement equal to 6-months’ salary as severance pay
• Ten (10) business days each year to attend conferences and meetings
• Dues and fees for up to four (4) legal associations or organizations
• Reimbursements of official expenses for travel, lodging, and meals
• Office space, office equipment, supplies, and any reasonably necessary materials
• Electronic equipment, software, and communications services, including cell phone
• Assistant attorneys, secretarial staff, and reasonably necessary experts
• Full cost of any fidelity or other required bonds
Wanchick told reporters that a proposed renewal contract, to continue the existing contractual relationship, revise the severance provision to comply with Florida Statutes and other proposed miscellaneous revisions, is being prepared and will be provided to the Board members prior to the meeting.
If you are planning to attend — the regular meeting of the St Johns County Commission will begin at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday and will be held in the County Auditorium; on the first floor of the County Administration Palace located at 500 San Sebastian View in St Augustine. It will be broadcast live on Comcast Government TV (Cable Channel 3) and is streamed over the Internet.
