According to an announcement that appeared in The St Augustine Record today, the newspaper’s publisher, Ron Davidson, says that he will retire later this year; neither the exact date nor a successor was named in the article.
Davidson became the vice president of sales and marketing for Morris Publishing’s Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville in 2007. Three years later, he stepped in as publisher of the Morris-owned St Augustine Record after Derek May was “called home” to the newspaper owner’s corporate offices in Augusta, Georgia in 2010.
According to a quote attributed to Davidson in the announcement, he said “My wife and I have been planning this for some time and it’s getting near the time for me to play more golf and spend more time with the family.”
The 62-year-old Davidson and his wife, Janet, live near Jacksonville Beach; but, his hometown is Kingsport, Tennessee. They have two grown sons in Wichita, Kansas, the announcement said.
