Historic City News reporters were informed that on Saturday, March 16, members of the St Johns County Fire Rescue Marine Rescue Division will be presented the 2012 “Beach Patrol of the Year” award; presented by the Florida Beach Patrol Chief’s Association.
In 2012, the Marine Rescue Division saw a total of 1,617 emergency responses on St Johns County beaches. Of those responses, 282 people were rescued from hazardous rip currents and emergency personnel dealt with 225 traumatic injuries on the beach.
“This award is given only to the best agencies in our field,” St. Johns County Fire Chief Carl Shank told reporters. “Its receipt places St Johns County Fire Rescue in the highest caliber of beach patrol agencies in Florida.”
Beach Patrol of the Year recipients are chosen based on numerous criteria such as; yearly goals and objectives, employment requirements, training programs, public safety initiatives as well as contributions to ocean lifesaving.
If you are planning to attend, the annual United States Lifesaving Association Southeast Region and Florida Beach Patrol Chief’s Association Awards Banquet, the ceremonies will commence at 7:00 p.m. at the Historic Casa Monica resort in downtown St Augustine.
