Historic City News reporters have learned that human remains have been located in a concealed and remote area in the Flagler Estates area this morning, according to information released this evening in a press conference held by St Johns County Undersheriff Joel Bolante.
During a multi-agency search that began in a residential area of Flagler Estates and spread out into the woods, new leads and evidence collected over the past three weeks guided detectives on their somber mission.
The exact spot where the decomposing body was located is just inside Flagler County. Sheriff Jim Manfre was notified and deputies from his department responded.
All-terrain vehicles, accompanied by officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, began searching at 7:30 a.m.
Evidence Technicians processed the scene in order to collect any usable material that may help explain what happened and who is responsible.
The body is believed to be that of Vermont Heights resident, Barbara Parchem — but, a positive identification cannot be made until a postmortem examination of the remains is completed by District 23 Medical Examiner, Dr. Predag Bulic.
The investigation continues.
