Today, local Historic City News reporters joined Sheriff David Shoar, local and state officials, current and retired Sheriffs, the family of the late Sheriff Neil J. Perry, and the men and women of the St Johns County Sheriff’s Office dedicated the St Johns County Criminal Complex in memory of Sheriff Perry.
On June 19, 2012, the St Johns County Board of County Commissioners passed and adopted a resolution recognizing the complex as the “Neil J. Perry Criminal Justice Complex,” in memory of Sheriff Perry and his extensive and successful law enforcement career.
The dedication is part of the Law Enforcement Memorial Services held each year where we remember those who dedicated their lives to public safety and died in the line of duty.
Overall, in St Johns County, 13 law enforcement officers have lost their lives in the line of duty. Nationwide, this year, there have been 47 deaths in-the-line-of-duty — 37 males, 4 females, and 6 K9 officers. Two of those law enforcement officers were from the state of Florida.
